"For those of you who have never attended the event and to remind those who forget the event’s rich history, please let me take a paragraph or two to explain.
In 2003, the Cystic Fibrosis foundation sponsored a fundraising event called Shamrockin’ the Southside. For $35, a person was able to get two hours of free drinks at the IBEW, a bar tour t-shirt, and drink specials at sponsored bars throughout the Southside. As a first year attorney, $35 seemed like a small fortune; hence, we decided to skip the IBEW and join the charitable folks en route. Even without the perks, I considered the event a success and looked forward to attending in the future. However, the following year the Cystic Fibrosis foundation decided to refocus its fundraising efforts, and Shamrockin' the Southside came to an end.
Challenge accepted.
Shamrocked on the Southside was born. Starting in 2004, I organized this bar crawl "just for fun." 2004 had just 20 participants; there were more bars than people. In 2017, there were more than 200 participants. Now that I have passed the torch to Dwight, I look forward to being part of the crowd and seeing old friends and new faces in the years to come."
